…Ki mitzion tetze torah, udvar Hashem mirushalayim
(…out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem)
God’s promises to the Jewish people still stand.
Thus saith the Lord of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
We do not believe in so-called “replacement theology.” I was shocked the other day to read in my New Interconfessional Bible index that the church has become Israel. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the Lord; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 31:35-37)
God would be a very cruel God if he made a promise to a Nation and then trashed it.
And the Lord said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. And Moses besought the Lord his God, and said, Lord, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. (Exodus 32:9-13)
Every good love story has a happy ending, right? God’s love for the Jews has not changed. His jealousy for his people still burns to this day and soon we will see him coming for his bride!
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. (Psalm 122:6-7)
Christ will reign from Jerusalem, God’s chosen city, and we will get to see God’s chosen people, after over 2,000 years of rebellion, finally repent of their evil ways and come back to their Lord and Savior! Halleluyah!
For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree [Israel]; Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. (Romans 11:16-21)
So although it cannot be said that “the church is now Israel,” it can be said that Israel is the church. We have been grafted into the New Covenant between God and Israel. We are Israel! May we never boast against the branches!
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law [torah] in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
We live in exciting times where more and more Jewish people are coming to know Jesus as their Messiah! May we continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for all the lost souls all around the world that they may be grafted in and saved!
